Next Friday marks the six-month anniversary of me going totally alcohol and smoke free. I figure, it's like a holiday in Claireland. I was thinking I would do something to celebrate, but what? Bike 183 miles for the 183 days that have passed? That seems a bit excessive. Run 26.014 miles for the 26.14 weeks that have gone by? Well, that's a thought, but again, a bit much considering I'll be running only .06 miles more exactly a month later. Swim 1,250 yards, one for each beer I hadn't drunk these past 6 months? Not long enough, I swim more than twice that on any given day. Then I had a wonderful, awful idea. I'm going to do a half ironman for the half year I've been alcohol free!
If an alcohol-free drink is called "virgin", does this mean I get my virginity back?
The purpose of this post is to see, does anyone want to come with me??? Next Friday is Good Friday, so I figure a lot of you will have the day off of work. I won't be able to do it all in one go, since there is no way in hell I'm doing an open-water swim (I'm still sans wetsuit), and I don't feel comfortable leaving my bike locked outside the gym. Would anyone like to do part or all of the bike, run, or both with me? Bob-O, you up for some loops around the lake? Maybe some of those Nutmeg Half hills? I'll buy you dinner (or lunch, as the case may be).
Whoever's interested, let me know. I'm willing to travel (around the northeast), but south is better than north.

I would love to but your waaaay over there plus I am starting taper for my Half on the 29th. Great job on your six month mark.
First - congrats on your 6 months mark! Your lungs and your liver thank you. This is not easy to do - and many people fail - you've gone into this full force and your strength and determination are inspring!
For your 1/2 IM - I, unfortunately have to work next Fri. If you end up changing it to Sat or Sun (which is easter...), though, I might be able to join you for the run (or even part of the bike)...
I should learn about being alcohol-free. I usually am, but last week two glasses of wine and an empty stomach just about did me in. Now I see where you're coming from, or came from. As I say to strangers on the course, 'nice job'.
I wish I could join you because I JUST ORDERED A WETSUIT. But it's not here yet, and I'm still figuring out the whole 'breathe when your face is out of the water, not when you're facing down' bit. But I'm getting better at it, thank you...
And I also figure we'll be burning villages and sowing the ground with salt during the Boston Marathon soon enough. Anyway, good luck on the anniversary, and have fun on the Claireland Half Ironman.
CONGRATS on your milestone...that is awesome. I think i'm just a little to south and west for you...although i'm sure the weather would be nice. Even if it were crappy...it still would be nice out here. Enjoy your Half Ironman!
